Live Healthy With Healthy Choices

Making healthy choices in your life – whether about what you eat or how you live your life – is not as difficult as you might imagine.  Healthy choices begin with taking small steps in the right direction.  A few healthy choices today can lead to a lifetime of creating healthy habits. In fact, here are a few things you can start doing today to live a healthier life:

We’ve all looked at labels and wonder what these long, strange words are.  More often than not, they are added sugars.  A lot of today’s convenience foods contain high levels of sugar – sometimes labeled as “high fructose corn syrup.”  This additive is a synthetic form of sugar.  It does not give us sustainable energy and in fact, it gives us a quick boost of energy and then a really big letdown.  In fact, the more we eat, the more we need that sugary substance.  Before you buy something, take a look at its ingredient list.  Added sugars come in a variety of different terms. The most common added sugars are called sucrose, glucose, fructose, and dextrose.

If you get in the habit of reading labels, you will be informed as customer who can begin making good food choices from day one.  Plus, ingredients that aren’t healthy come in a variety of terms.  The three biggest culprits to anybody’s diet are salt, sugar, and fats.  Foods with saturated fat or “trans fat” can raise your cholesterol. No matter how healthy a person’s diet is, everybody should take a nutritional supplement.  Iron, calcium, magnesium – these are all important minerals to get every day, and they can be hard to get the right amount even in the healthiest of foods.  Also, gender, age, health history should all be taken into consideration when shopping for a vitamin.  But be sure to consult your doctor before taking any steps when getting a supplement. Your doctor will be able to advise you on what you should take in daily and can even provide you with some resources to find out what vitamin and mineral supplement work best for you.
